Jex
A member of the Heralds of Dust (Dustmen) encountered in the Mortuary
What You Know
Jex was one of the first people you met in the Mortuary—a gruff Herald of Dust remnant who was going about his work processing the dead with the cold efficiency the faction is known for. His voice was clipped, practical, and utterly devoid of warmth. Not hostile, just… indifferent. To the Dustmen, life is an illusion, and they’ve already moved past caring about the concerns of the living.
He didn’t try to stop you from leaving, but he didn’t exactly help either. The Heralds of Dust aren’t in the business of coddling folks who wake up on their slabs. If you want to walk out, that’s your choice—just don’t expect them to hold the door.
Jex and the others like him see death not as an end, but as the beginning of true existence. They’re patient, methodical, and utterly convinced that everything you’re clinging to—your memories, your identity, your very sense of self—is just a fleeting shadow. One day, they believe, you’ll understand.
Until then, they’ll keep processing corpses, preparing the dead for whatever comes next, and waiting for the rest of the multiverse to catch up to their philosophy.
