Morte

A wisecracking floating skull with a sharp tongue and sharper wit

What You Know

Your first memory in Sigil was waking up in the Mortuary with this wisecracking skull floating nearby. Morte’s got a nasal voice, a sarcastic wit sharp enough to cut glass, and a habit of making light of even the darkest situations. He helped you figure out what was happening when you came to in the basement, cracking jokes about death certificates and Dustmen.

Despite the humor, there’s something sad about Morte—like he’s seen too much and is trying to forget. He acts tough, but you got the sense he was genuinely relieved when you all decided to stick together and get out of that place.

He’s asked you to bring him back a beer more than once. Maybe he’s joking. Maybe he’s not. With Morte, it’s hard to tell.

Recently, he reached out with a message: he’s overheard chant at the bar about Verdax the Resonant needing help. Morte seems to think Verdax might know something about your past—and that whatever the ancient bell wants, it might be worth your while to listen.

The skull’s got your back, even if he won’t admit it. And in Sigil, that counts for something.
